                Mayor James Snyder

As Mayor of the City of Portage, I am pleased that you are visiting our City on the
world wide web and welcome you to drop by my office for a personal visit the next time you are in town.

You will find through our new and improved website that the City of Portage is a leading-edge community that offers residents and visitors a variety of amenities and services.

A message from Mayor Snyder-

Beginning January 1, 2011, Indiana households, public schools, and small businesses are no longer able to mix unwanted computer monitors, computers, televisions, printers, computer peripherals (such as keyboards and mice), DVD players, video cassette recorders or fax machines with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill or intended for disposal by burning or incineration. (Per IC 13-20.5) Additional information can be found at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management's Website.

As an additional service to our citizens, the Portage Sanitation Department will pick up all e-waste with your bi-weekly recycling.  Simply place the electronics in with the rest of your recycling materials.  The City's E-Waste  recycling program is just one of the green initiatives that Portage has introduced.  Other important green projects include our new 13 acre compost facility, incorporation of energy star rated lighting fixtures, LED applications in traffic signals, andfocused efforts to incorporate paperless technology into all City offices.

Further information regarding e-waste recycling efforts can be found at:
