Stay safe when cooking this Thanksgiving: - Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, grilling, or broiling food.
- Use turkey fryers outdoors away from buildings and items that can catch fire.
- Never use a turkey fryer in a garage or on a wooden deck.

Portage Fire Department is a progressive, active fire department where hard work, dedication and intense training are a must. In 2008 Portage Fire Department experienced a record number of emergency responses. We also set records for the most training hours ever in a 1-year period. PFD is a 61-member department who works the customary 24 / 48 duty rotation. There are 45 Firefighters cross-trained as paramedics and all of our Firefighters are Emergency Medical Technicians.
