Women's Volleyball Rules
Roster
All players must be over 18 years of age and out of high school. In the event any team has an illegal player, all games that person participated in will be forfeited.
A maximum of 16 players is allowed on a team roster.
A player must sign the roster before playing. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit of all games played while not on the roster.
A player must completely remove their name from the roster of one team before playing on another.
New players cannot sign up to play after week 6 of the season unless the team roster drops below 6 due to injuries.
The minimum legal number of players allowed to play at once is 2. If a fifth of sixth player arrives after the game has already started, they may enter in the 5th or 6th position.
If a team does not have enough players to start the first game of the match at game time, that game will be lost by forfeit. The next game will only be lost by forfeit if there is not enough to begin the second game at the scheduled time, and so on.
Game
Matches will consist of three games to 12 minutes. Rally scoring will be utilized (a point will be awarded after every dead ball). There will be a 3-point cap on rally scoring.
No time outs are allowed during a game. The official can stop a game for injury or equipment failure. You may sub for an injured player.
No protests are allowed. Furthermore, the referee will control all calls. If unsportsmanlike conduct occurs at any time, the player(s) involved will automatically be ejected from that game and not be allowed to play the following game.
A coin toss shall determine the serve/court side of the first and third games. The team who lost the coin toss will receive first serve in second game regardless of the outcome.
The server may serve anywhere behind the end line.
Teams are required to provide two score keepers per court as assigned on the schedule. Please distribute the scoring between all members of your team.
Failure to score on your assigned day and time will result in one forfeit for each game not scored.
Division winners will be determined by their win/loss record.
The team who wins B-Division will automatically be moved up to A-Division next season.
In the event of a tie, the two teams will play one match which will consist of the best 2 out of 3 games (12 minute games, win by 2). There will only be a playoff to determine 1st and 2nd place.
Children under the age of 13 are not allowed in the gym. No exceptions. This is due to liability issues and to prevent clutter in the gymnasium which can affect the matches.
In order to limit time between matches; when the referee blows the whistle, the game will begin. A point will be lost every 30 seconds a team is not ready for play.
Shoe changes must take place in lobby to prevent wet playing surfaces.
