Steve Charnetzky
Street Superintendent
Randy Reeder
Assistant Street Superintendent
The duties of the Portage Street Department include a vast array of details. One of the first jobs that come to mind is snowplowing and road maintenance. However, the duties of the street department go way beyond that. Leaf pickup is another job that is greatly depended upon by the public, as well as maintaining and installing proper storm drainage. Removing branches and debris along with street sweeping and instalation of sidewalks are some examples of work performed by the department in the summer months. The street department also freely works with and provides support to all of the other departments in the city. Above all public saftey is our main concern.
The Portage Street Department clerks office staffs two people. Their duties include record keeping, organizing lists of special pick up items, answering phones, and radio dispatching. The clerks office is located on site at the Street Department and maintains the same hours of operation as the department. To speak with one of the clerks either visit the Portage Street Department or call at 219-762-4564.
