Our location on Lake Michigan brings many opportunities.  Our Portage Chamber of Commerce has described Portage as the Port of Opportunity.  The International Port of Indiana is located within our borders, as well as, the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.  Our public marina is a great asset that compliments the many private marinas along the Burns Waterway.  The opportunities for recreation are numerous.  Fishing, hiking, swimming, boating and bicycling along our extensive trail network are just to name a few. 

Opportunities for employment continue to increase with new business and light industry locating in Portage. Retail and restaurants have also contributed to our positive growth. These are exciting times and we continue to work closely with Portage Economic Development Corporation to encourage investment in Portage.

Our school system offers many experiences for our students that prepare them well for their future goals whether they are higher learning or employment.  They continue to strive for excellence and it shows in the many successful stories we hear about our youth.  They are our future and we have a vested interest in supporting our school and students as they work hard to realize their dreams.

Our city has many service organizations, a strong faith community, a health business community and most importantly citizens who care deeply about their neighbors, friends and family.  We are a community of hard working people with a commitment to keeping our city safe, clean, and prosperous.  Our opportunities are endless.  There is no stopping us now.  Portage is on the move.  I am proud to call Portage my home!
