The Portage Police Department is comprised of 61 sworn officers, 15 reserve officers, and 8 civilians. The Portage Police Department was founded in 1959 with Vernon Reibly being appointed as the first Chief of Police. The first police station was a small white building located on Central Ave. We moved to the current police station in June 1967 with an expansion to the existing building conducted in 1974.
